Boundary Review for Eglinton Junior Public School and Maurice Cody Junior Public School –
It is recommended:
a) That the junior attendance area for Maurice Cody Junior Public School be expanded to include the portion of the Eglinton Junior Public School junior attendance area that is located south of Eglinton Avenue and east of Mount Pleasant Road, effective 1 September 2019;
b) That all students who reside in the portion of Eglinton Junior Public School’s junior attendance area described in Part a) above and attend Eglinton Junior Public School as of the end of the 2018/19 school year be allowed to remain at Eglinton Junior Public School until they graduate; and
c) That all students who reside in the portion of Eglinton Junior Public School’s junior attendance area described in Part a) above and who will be entering JK in the 2018/19 school year be allowed to register at Maurice Cody Junior Public School for the 2018/19 school year.
It is important to note that this proposed boundary change will not address all the accommodation pressures that Eglinton Jr PS is experiencing. Due to the large number of residential units currently under construction or proposed in the Yonge-Eglinton area, additional accommodation solutions are required. As approved in the LTPAS 2017-2026, Phase II of the Program Area Review for Yonge-Eglinton is scheduled to explore further opportunities to mitigate enrolment growth and accommodation pressures at Eglinton Jr PS. This study will involve many schools in the area and could include further boundary, grade and/or program changes. This study will include an analysis of the Bannockburn property, a former elementary school located at Avenue Road, north of Lawrence Avenue, which could accommodate up to 300 students. The redirection of new residential development within the Eglinton Jr PS attendance area to schools outside the area is also being explored. Furthermore, Board staff continues to investigate all available avenues to support the Board’s requirement for a new elementary school in the area.
